Tandem: the cornerstone of a perimeter program

Tandem: the cornerstone of a perimeter program
By ElRay Roper, Senior Technical Representative, Syngenta Professional Pest Management

In this modern age of pest management, most of our efforts are directed at preventing pest problems on our customers’ properties. As a result, most of our work is on the outside of buildings rather than on the inside. To maximize effectiveness, Pest Management Professionals need a single product on their trucks that allows them to control more pests in more locations.

Tandem® insecticide
from Syngenta Professional Pest Management can be the solution for your perimeter pest management program. Labeled for indoor and outdoor use and now available in a large-volume, 2-quart bottle, Tandem provides “cupboard-to-curb” protection from both structural infesting pests and a wide variety of turf and landscape pests.

Featuring the combination of two active ingredients – lambda-cyhalothrin, a third generation pyrethroid insecticide, and thiamethoxam, Tandem is a fast-acting contact and systemic insecticide. Its microencapsulated formulation, using iCAP technology, offers both quick knockdown and extended control on a variety of surface types. Smaller microcaps release the active ingredient quickly for immediate control, while larger microcaps release the active ingredient slower for long-lasting, residual control.

Tandem is labeled to control nearly 100 different arthropod pests found in and around structures, including bed bugs, fire ants and spiders. Because of its systemic activity, Tandem is quickly absorbed and distributed within plants to control numerous sucking insects like aphids and mealy bugs. This systemic activity also helps control ants, such as Argentine ants and odorous house ants, which rely on honeydew producers as their primary food source. It is absorbed either through foliar application, or application to the soil beneath landscape plantings.

The Tandem label features more than 50 application sites, including the inside and outside of structures and modes of transportation such as buses and trucks. It can be applied as a course low-pressure spray, power spray, paint-on, crack-and-crevice or spot treatment. Applying Tandem as an expandable foam into voids or via fixed, in-wall delivery systems is also an option.
