Dee Watts of Wayne’s Environmental Services, is a service manager in the Birmingham area. Watts shared his experiences using Optigard® Flex Insecticide to treat for two of the regions major pest targets – Argentine ants and the white flies that feed them.
Watts likes using Optigard Flex for its systemic properties, allowing the product to be applied to foliage and around the base where it is taken up by the plant’s roots. The long lasting control discourages honeydew producing insects (Visit, http://www.syngentapmp.com/optigard.aspx for an informational video on how Optigard Flex is systemic in landscape ornamentals). Since honeydew is a top food source for Argentine ants, applying the product in this manner rids the area of the ant’s major food source, forcing the ants to move elsewhere. “It’s helped solve many of our toughest ant infestations” said Watts regarding Optigard Flex’s systemic properties. Watts has also used Optigard Flex on potted plants infested with white flies. “I watered the plant with a gallon of Optigard Flex and the problem was solved.”
