Research shows faster bed bug control is possible with Tandem insecticide.

Research shows faster bed bug control is possible with Tandem insecticide.

Compared to other pests such as ants and cockroaches, it has been found that bed bugs cannot be effectively controlled with a single product treatment. However, a recent study shows that an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach featuring Tandem® insecticide can help quickly remove the nuisance of bed bugs from your customers’ properties.

Real-world bed bug problems

Rutgers University researchers Changlu Wang, Narinderpal Singh and Richard Cooper recently demonstrated the efficacy of an IPM approach to bed bug control. Instead of conducting the study in a lab, however, their research was completed in eight to 10 bed bug-infested apartments per treatment in New Jersey. All the apartments were visually inspected, and surveys of bed bug numbers were made prior to treatments using climb-up interceptors.

Four different treatments — three with products and one control — were made in this study. The products used were Tandem (0.13%), Temprid® SC insecticide (0.075%) and Transport® Mikron insecticide (0.11%). All products were applied at the lowest labeled rate for bed bugs, as well as applied in conjunction with a steam application. The control treatment was a steam-only application.

Applications to key bed bug areas

Spray applications of the three products were made to the following areas in the apartments:

·         Baseboards
·         Natural openings on walls
·         Cracks and crevices around the bottom of sofas
·         Curtains, detached headboards and shelves where evidence of bed bugs had been seen

Steam was also applied directly to bed bugs found on mattresses, box springs, bed frames and sofas in all four treatments.

Timely bed bug control with Tandem

The results of the trial found that all four treatments (three with products and one control) helped reduce the number of bed bugs. However, significantly higher bed bug reduction was achieved when a steam application was made in conjunction with a spray application, compared to the control. Using Tandem, in particular, resulted in significantly faster bed bug reduction than Transport and Temprid. The results are shown in the graph below.

Broad control in a single product

In addition to effective control of bed bugs, Tandem also controls more than 90 other pests including ants, cockroaches, spiders and more. With proprietary iCAP technology from Syngenta, microcaps of multiple sizes release Tandem at different times for immediate and long-lasting control for up to four months. Its full turf-application label for lawns and landscapes further helps provide “cupboard-to-curb” control.

You can help differentiate your business by using Tandem as an effective and comprehensive tool to give your customers a life uninterrupted by the nuisance of pests, including bed bugs.
